St. John Neumann Catholic High School is committed to developing sportsmanship, academic excellence and integrity in every SJN student. Neumann is a proud member of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association. We offer 12 different FHSAA sports and are proud to report that over 85% of the student body participates in athletics.
Varsity Baseball practice is held at the SJN Baseball Field. The Celtic Baseball Team holds 10 district championship titles and four regional titles. The team has produced two All-State Players in the past three years.
Boys & Girls Varsity and JV Basketball teams hold practice in the SJN Gym. The girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams hold over 10 district titles between them. The girls’ team has also collected four regional championships and two final four appearances. SJN basketball alumni can currently be seen playing at schools such as the University of Tampa and Transylvania University. With experienced coaches at the helm, the Celtics look forward to another outstanding basketball season.
Girls Varsity Cheerleading practice is held on the SJN campus. Cheerleading has returned to SJN, after a long absence, and has revved up the spirit of the SJN sporting community! Tryouts are held in the spring, for participation the following school year. Tryouts available for incoming Freshmen through Juniors. Cheer team supports: Varsity Football, Varsity Basketball, and other assorted sporting & special events throughout the entire school year. Girls perform chants, cheers, dances and stunting. Camp commitments: 1 week immediately following end of school year, 1 week before school resumes.
Varsity and JV Cross Country practice is held at the Golden Gate Community Park in Naples. Mike Olayos began coaching at St. John Neumann Catholic High School in 1993 as Head Coach of the boys’ and girls’ cross country program. The following year saw him bring a state runner-up finish for the boys’ cross country team. Neumann boasts 11 district championship titles and 18 consecutive years qualifying for the state finals for both teams.
Football practice is held on the SJN Football Field. The varsity football team is looking forward to another successful season. With our weight room being utilized, our newly reconditioned field, and growing number of players, hopes are high for a run at the District title. Some of our football alumni can be found playing at Div. 1 & 2 schools as well as NAIA schools.
With five District Championships under their belt, the St. John Neumann golf team has the talent to take it to the next level.
Boys & Girls Varsity & JV Soccer practice on the SJN Soccer Field. In the past 10 years, the team win three district championships and came in second twice. They are looking forward to continued success this coming season.
Varsity and JV Softball practice is held on the SJN Softball Field. The SJN softball team is looking to add another district win to the nine they currently hold.
+Swimming & Diving
Practice is held at the Golden Gate Community Park Aquatic Center in Naples. Since 2001, several of St. John Neumann High School swimmers have been sent to the Florida State Swimming Championships.
Both boy’s and girl’s tennis at SJN is thriving in terms of participation and success. Thanks to Wyndemere Country Club, we have facilities for both practice and matches which is the top venue in the area. Each of our matches consists of 5 Singles and 2 Doubles so there is ample opportunity to compete. In 2012, the boy’s team finished 8-4 and the girl’s were 5-7.
+Track & Field
Varsity & JV Track & Field practice is held on the SJN Track. The 2012 Track season marked Neumann’s 18th consecutive appearance at the Florida State Championships. Close to 40% of the student body participates in the boys’ and girls’ track and field events.
Varsity & JV Volleyball practice is held in the SJN Gym. In past years the girls’ varsity volleyball team has been recognized by the FHSAA as “Academic Team Champion” boasting the highest cumulative GPA out of 85 comparable sized schools. Alumni of Neumann’s volleyball team have continued on to play college ball in Division I teams, such as Stetson University.
